Honey Garlic Chicken Taquitos (20 Minutes)
Crispy rolled chicken taquitos brushed with a sticky honey garlic glaze, baked until golden and served with a cool creamy dip.
Method
- Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C, gas 7) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Stir the honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and chilli flakes together in a bowl, then toss the shredded chicken in the mixture until evenly coated.
- Warm the tortillas for 20 seconds in the microwave under a damp paper towel so they roll without cracking.
- Spoon chicken and a little mozzarella down the centre of each tortilla, roll tightly, and place seam-side down on the tray.
- Brush the tops lightly with oil and bake at 425°F (220°C, gas 7) for 10 to 12 minutes, until deep golden and crisp.
- Rest for 2 minutes, scatter over the spring onions, and serve with sour cream for dipping.
Microwave times are for a 1,000 W microwave, the usual US size. In an 800 W microwave (common in the UK and Europe) add about a quarter more time; at 1,200 W check a little early.

Chef notes
Rolling the taquitos seam-side down keeps them closed in the oven, and a light brush of oil gives the crisp finish without deep frying.
Substitutions
- Cooked shredded chicken — shredded rotisserie chicken, or canned chicken, drained
- Mozzarella — Monterey Jack or a Mexican cheese blend
- Soy sauce — tamari, for a gluten-free version with corn tortillas
Serving suggestions
Serve with sour cream, salsa, or guacamole, plus a simple cabbage slaw on the side.
Storage
Airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheating
Reheat in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 3 to 4 minutes, or in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes, until crisp again.
Equipment
- Baking tray
- Parchment paper
- Mixing bowl
- Pastry brush
Variations
- Spicy: add 1 tablespoon hot sauce to the honey garlic mixture
- Cheesy: add 2 tablespoons cream cheese to the chicken filling for a creamier centre
Why it works
Honey caramelises in a hot oven, so the glaze turns sticky and golden at the same time as the tortilla crisps. Warming the tortillas first keeps them flexible, so they roll tightly instead of splitting.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my taquitos unroll in the oven?
They were placed seam-side up or the tortillas were cold. Warm the tortillas first and always bake seam-side down.
Can I make honey garlic chicken taquitos in the air fryer?
Yes. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 7 to 8 minutes, turning once, until golden and crisp.
